In the cold, wintery July of 2014, two crazy kids went on a holiday to Hawaii where they fell in love with the weather and tropical lifestyle. Arriving back in Perth a month later, a little seed was planted..."Perhaps there is something more to life than working behind a desk...?" they thought.
After looking online, they saw a property for sale in Childers, Queensland. "I wonder what's wrong with it!?" they laughed. "Let's go check it out". Two days later, their plane tickets were booked and they were on their way.
They fell in love. Sure, it was a little rough around the edges, but with a bit of TLC this little winery and orchard could be turned into something amazing. After a little smooth talking, they managed to convince their families it was a great idea and put in an offer. It was accepted. These two crazy kids were now winery owners.
They decided to rename the winery "Ohana Winery and Exotic Fruits". Ohana is the Hawaiian word for 'friends and family' - a fitting tribute to the friends and family that helped make their dream come true.
Since opening in April 2015, Josh and Zoe have worked tirelessly to create a boutique range of tropical fruit wines and unique liqueurs to share with visitors at the Cellar Door. All the fruit wines are made with 100% fresh fruit that is either grown in the Ohana orchard or by local farmers. Josh the winemaker, strives to produce high quality fruit wines that are well balanced and complex, without high levels of sweetness that people have come to expect with fruit wines. In the first year of production, the winery collected seven medals in it's debut competition at the 2016 Perth Royal Show Commercial Fruit Wine Competition . It is Josh and Zoe's passion to create unique flavours and experiences for their guests, making Ohana Winery a must-see stop in the Southern Great Barrier Reef region.
