The town of Childers was first settled by Europeans in the 1850’s. They soon found that the area was rich with red volcanic soil. Volcanic soil is deep draining and rich in nutrients making it perfect for agriculture.
The Ohana orchard is over 11 acres with a small commercial plantation of avocados, but that isn’t all! The red soil and sub-topical weather also provide the perfect conditions for growing exotic fruits from sub-tropical and tropical regions all over the world. Our exotic fruit orchard contains fruits grown in South America, South-East Asia, Mexico, Hawaii, China and more. Join us on one of our guided orchard tours and you will enjoy tasting some of these wonderful fruits. Depending on the season, fruits tasted may include Chocolate Pudding Fruit, Starfruit, Dragonfruit, Ice Cream Bean, Jaboticaba and more! Once you see how the fruits grow and taste, you will then head back to the cellar door to enjoy the delicious fruit wines and liqueurs we produce onsite.
